You might not have given much thought to how you want your hair to look on your wedding day, but as the big day draws closer, it’s something you’ll need to consider. Whether you’re a complete hair down natural type of girl or you’re looking for a super-chic chignon that will hold all day long, you’re in the right place.
Here we talk about how to choose your wedding hair look to ensure you look and feel amazing on your big day.
Book a trial
Just like with your wedding makeup, we always recommend booking a trial for your hair. While not always necessary for the full bridal party, it is worth booking a bridal hair trial so we have the chance to try out different looks and find one you are completely happy with ahead of time.
That way, we can turn up on the morning of your wedding and everyone knows exactly what to expect – staving off some of those last-minute pre-wedding jitters.
What you can bring to the trial
Before you have a hair trial, have a think about how you usually style your hair. While most brides want something a little more spectacular than their everyday look for their wedding, it is important that you still look and feel like you.
Now think about how you would have your hair for a night out. If you’re constantly playing with it and brushing it off your face when it’s down, it might be a good idea to opt for an updo for your wedding day. Similarly, if you wear your hair up everyday and letting it down is a luxury then you may prefer it loose.
Have a browse through our wedding hair gallery to find some styles you like. Whether you want a mix of several or a carbon copy of one in particular, be sure to let us know.
Deciding on your wedding hair
There are three main looks that brides-to-be usually opt for when it comes to hair:
- Loose and natural
- Half up, half down
- Updo
Of course, there is a massive scope of styles within each category. For example you may want an updo with lots of volume or texture. You may prefer a more structured style, or you may like it better with a few strands pulled out so it looks natural and romantic. However you prefer it, we can work with you to ensure your wedding hair looks exactly how you envisioned.
Loose and natural
Brides with short hair may prefer it worn loose and natural. Whether you have it slightly curled at the ends, flicky, or you want a structured blow dry, we can make it happen.
Half up, half down
The half up, half down style works well if you like to wear your hair down but want it kept away from your face during the day. You could have it straightened or curled at the ends, you may choose a braid or little plaits, you may want it twisted – there are so many options for this look!
Updo
Often chosen to show your dress off to its full potential, there are many options available when it comes to a bridal updo hairstyle. Whether you want it completely structured and hairsprayed so it wont move, or you prefer the idea of loose tendrils framing your face, we can do whatever you like. Again you could opt for braids, hair jewellery or other accessories – maybe your bridesmaids’ hair accessories could match yours for uniformity?
Think about accessories and your dress
Often a deciding factor on the overall hairstyle for your wedding day is your wedding dress. If you have chosen a dress with detailing on the back and shoulders, an updo may be necessary to show it off to its full potential. Likewise, if you’ve opted for a plainer dress or one with detailing mainly on the front or near the bottom, this gives you free reign on your hairstyle.
The time of year you get married could also affect it. On a boiling hot summer’s day you may prefer it off your face to stop you feeling so warm. A windy day may also call for hair off your face.
Consider your hair accessories – are you and your bridesmaids all matching? Do you want your bridesmaids hair to be different to yours? Have you got hair jewellery or flowers to accessorise with? Are you wearing a veil? Your hair stylist will talk through all of the options available to you to help you choose which hairstyle is best for you.
